As a teacher of Architecture at U.C. Berkeley for 4 years, and an ardent student of California and local history, I can offer this tour that is rivaled by no other company.

The Story of San Francisco through its Architecture

From its birthplace at Mission San Francisco de Asis in 1776, the city's rich and fascinating history will be revealed through an examination of some of the most eclectic architecture found anywhere in the world:

  • The Gold Rush buildings of the Barbary Coast where the city really began.
  • The 19th century residential Victorian Architecture that exemplify the Italianate, Eastlake-Stick and Queen Anne Styles.
  • The mansions of the wealthy that pre-date and post-date the earthquake of 1906 in Pacific Heights, Nob Hill, Presidio Terrace and Sea Cliff areas.
  • The Classical Architecture of the Civic Center.
  • Celebrity homes and other prominent structures.
  • Contemporary Buildings unique to San Francisco.

Average duration: 3-4 Hours

Portions of this tour are covered to a limited extent in the city tour. Both of these tours may be thoroughly covered in about 5 hours.
