Monterey/Carmel by the Sea and Coastal Hwy. One

For some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in the world. . .this is the tour for you! We begin our journey heading down California Highway 1, one of the most scenic highways in the world. We pass through state redwood parks, the beach resort of Santa Cruz (with possible stops at the Beach Boardwalk and Surfing Museum-especially of interest for groups with kids), and then arrive at Monterey: the capital of California under Spanish rule. We then visit Fisherman's Wharf, Cannery Row (make famous by John Steinbeck, with an optional stop at the Monterey Bay Aquarium), Pacific Grove, the 17 Mile Drive, Lodge at Pebble Beach, and downtown Carmel for shopping. We return to San Francisco by the inland route through San Jose and the Silicon Valley. (A side trip to Big Sur is possible, as well as an overnight to Hearst Castle).

Lunch possibilities include a Monterey Bay Seafood Restaurant, a quaint Carmel bistro, or the Lodge at Pebble Beach.

Tour duration: 8-11 hours. Overnights available.
